John founded Shorb Landscaping in 1994 and has been growing a successful business ever since. After entering the industry in 1985 he noticed an opportunity to combine proper horticultural practices, elite customer service, and the use of only quality materials, plants, and craftsmanship to create outdoor spaces to create a company providing that takes great pride in its work. Clients have come to know us for our work standards and trustworthiness that brings them peace of mind knowing that the job will be done at a level that exceeds their expectations. John specializes in Landscape Construction projects and Grading and Drainage solutions.
John is also an ISA Certified Arborist, Certified Horticulturalist, Certified Landscape Technician, Licensed Pesticide Applicator for lawns and ornamentals, Professional Fertilizer Applicator, Certified Irrigation Technician, and Certified Interlocking Concrete Paver Contractor. John enjoys building and maintaining wonderful outdoor spaces that bring joy and happiness to each of our clients.

A true veteran of the Green Industry with over 40 years of experience, Boyd has been with Shorb since 2003. Working with several other landscape companies around the mid-Atlantic allowed him to accumulate a wealth of knowledge before joining forces with Shorb in 2003. Boyd has been pivotal to the success of Shorb Landscaping by helping to streamline operations over the last 20 years. Boyd is a certified horticulturalist and OSHA 30 certified.
Ryan Smith

As our Director of Business Development, Ryan leads our business development team and responsible for the overall growth of the company while helping to implement key processes and procedures to support our growth. Ryan also helps to develop and build relationships with key business representatives. He educates prospective clients about how Shorb does things differently than other companies and how that can lead to enhanced curb appeal throughout their properties. Ryan is able to utilize his knowledge, 20 years of experience, and his degree in Landscape Architecture to help current and prospective client partners see their landscape’s true potential. Ryan enjoys being able to create long term partnerships with clients and watching as they realize their landscape goals through Shorb Landscaping.

Lynn is our Human Resources Manager and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Human Resources and Employment Relations from Penn State, Lynn is paramount in helping to create and maintain our fantastic culture around the office. Lynn is a veteran of the Green Industry with more than 30 years of experience and loves that the constant changing of the seasons requires the shift in focus with our landscape operations.

Matt is the Branch Manager of our Ballew branch location. A graduate of West Virginia University, Matt brings over 10 years of industry experience to Shorb. Matt specializes in Business Management and landscape grounds maintenance, and he has an appreciation for Shorb because we bring a personalized approach to landscape management and customer service. With a very knowledgeable team, we help educate clients to do what is proper for the landscape so their landscapes are able to thrive.

Nate is a Landscape Design Consultant working primarily with our Ballew branch territory. ICPI Certified and LCA Certified, Nate brings over 12 years of design/build experience to our team. No project is too small, nor too big, for Nate to handle. With experiences including large patios, small patios, large retaining walls, and more, Nate brings a unique eye to your vision and can help you create the space of your dreams. Nate prides himself on being able to bring designs to life.

Michael is the Branch Manager for the Kensington branch office and is the Director of Snow operations at Shorb. After attending the horticulture program at Montgomery College, Michael started his own landscaping business. After several successful years, he sold his business to a nationwide landscape company and held positions as Operations Manager, Account Manager and as the Regional Snow Specialist for the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Michael’s passion for leadership led him back into the Manager role where he excels at working directly with clients and key operational personnel to service customers and grow the business. Michael’s snow expertise combined with his industry experience are paramount in giving clients the confidence to know that they are in the best hands here at Shorb.

As our Senior Landscape Design Consultant, Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team as it relates to large project designs, installations, and project management. Scott is a graduate of the University of Delaware and has a degree in General Horticulture and Landscape Horticulture. Scott’s main area of expertise within the industry is in larger scale design/build projects. His 25 years of experience has allowed him to work on countless designs and seeing them through to completion of construction. Scott enjoys teaching clients about quality landscape design and execution and being able to bring outdoor spaces to life for clients keeps driving him to success on a daily basis.

Ted is a graduate of the University of Maryland in College Park with a degree in Environmental Science. With over 20 years of industry experience, Ted is able to provide many different solution options to many different problems that often arise in the landscape. His area of expertise is in plant identification and best practices for proper landscape maintenance. Ted enjoys the green industry because everyone often has differing areas of expertise and they can always come together to solve problems for clients.

An amazing problem solver, Andrea brings over 13 years of experience in the green industry to our team. With degrees in Horticulture and Architecture from BYU, Andrea is able to help clients create an environment that combines the intricacies of design with the ever-evolving pallet of plants at her disposal. Andrea is able to communicate in both English and Spanish and enjoys a good challenge brought to her by a client. She has never faced a challenge she hasn’t been able to conquer.

Mike has been with Shorb for 2 years but is an industry veteran with over 10 years of experience. A graduate from Salisbury University with a degree in Business Management, Mike understands how important communication is to clients and how helping them understand landscape concerns early and providing proactive plans for remedy can build a strong foundation for a long-term partnership. Mike has a ton of knowledge in the landscape world and knows how to combine the functional landscape with the needs of a homeowner or business to get the most out of the design intent.

Tim is a graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor’s degree in of Plant Science. Specializing in grading and drainage solutions, as well as plant selection and design, allows Tim to be able to analyze and solve any landscape issue you may have throughout your property. That very capability is what has driven Tim to enjoy this industry as much as he has for more than 20 years. Tim appreciates that no two landscape problems are the same and being able to lean on his broad base of experience allows him to help people in ways that many others cannot.
